84th Annual Pulaski Day Parade will take place on Fifth Avenue in New York City to celebrate Polish-American history, culture and tradition. Radio RAMPA is streaming the Parade live on Sunday, October 3, starting at 12:30 p.m.
This year’s Grand Marshall is Heidi Jadwiga Kopala from New Jersey. The honorary Marshalls are Helena Knapczyk – survivor of the Russian/Siberian forced labor camp, and Anita Wlodarczyk – a Polish hammer thrower, three-time Olympic champion, four-time world champion. The theme of this year’s parade is “Celebrating the 100th Birthday of Saint John Paul II”
The main stage of the Parade is located at 41st Street and Fifth Avenue. Contingents from the states of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut march along Fifth Avenue, past St. Patrick’s Cathedral, to showcase their national pride.
The parade honors the great hero of both nations – General Casimir Pulaski – who fought for freedom in Poland and United States. It was Casimir Pulaski who saved the life of George Washington during the Revolutionary War in America.
The Pulaski Day Parade is one of the oldest, ethnic parades in New York City’s history. It is also one of the largest gathering of Polonia in the United States. The parade features notable Polish-Americans, representatives of Polish and American government, traditional Polish dancers, students of Polish supplementary schools and representatives of various Polish organizations.
